reation to Dollhouse, ep. 3

Ok! Another swing at Joss Whedon's new series Dollhouse on Fa-Fa-Fox, those bastards. So far so better. All the gloom and doom and emotional anguish that has sent every actor to the cloying room of ethical distress is lifted momentarily. Is it me or is the FBI guy the sort of type A S.O.B. that nobody likes? he's all moral quandry? Not a chance, you bum! Now scram before I cut off your allowance! I mean, could he be less interesting so far? He probably avoids shopping at Target because of all the colors inside.

there we are with the usual tensiony battle between morally bankrupt priveledged white guy techo wizard vs. grounded black guy with ethics that, um, gotta pay the bills.

enter two new players--Sienna and finally, a dude. We all want to see the sexiness of the felmale wipe-droid humans. will the males follow that suit as much? Money's on them doing it, but to a much lesser degree. we shall see.

first impressions-better and less uber-rich creepy storyline that puts Eliza in a better element for her acting style. lot's of edgy fun stuff for her to react off of. Mr. moral is getting the usual treatment most fans would like to inflict on him-at least be interesting as a good/bad guy! we don't need the straight moral guy finds his gray area plotline. we've seen that

Hurrah for the red mini outfit on Eliza! nothing will really look bad on her, anyway.

Oh lordy, not this. ladies and gentleman, we have a twist. and it's....lame. I'm getting a sense that the hardest part in dreaming this dream is finding plausible, well, let's be real here, bearable, client ideas are the real challenge.

I've come to realize now that there is no funny in this Whedon universe. His trademark writing and blending of styles has been more focused and working with a limited range of expression. It's clearly a conscious decision. Perhaps he found this to be his challenge; get rid of what he's known for and work the dark, emotional hardness with arcs never ranging into humor, comedy, lightness. Ok, we do have the crazy fun techo guy. we have him. but do we want him? does he really fit in the show? it seems like he's the only one not getting the point that he's got to interact and respond to the actors. so far there isn't a whole lot of chemistry on stage either.

Sigh. I don't know how long this show can last. how many boring story lines are we going to follow until we give up on them?

Also, getting to the central point of the show is Eliza's identity issues. She seems to have none of them so far while the job is going on. so......the cracks are shown on the others inside the house. How's it working for you guy and gals?

what they need here is a constant mega-client who always uses the dolls for different things. That way we don't have to deal with the flavor-of-the-week crazy rich person with a tough out and we start having long-term interesting interactions.

Wait, looks like Echo's got some Slayer moves after all! Nice chairing. Still about as interesting as watching her not be her.

heere's the big finish now. things are getting a little more interesting but really. I keep wondering why I should be watching this? Again? maybe I'm the one who needs the memory wiped. well...it's not without it's wrinkles, in the end. but I remain with ALL my memory of these events, and if it continues, I, too, might sign up for a clean sweep.

p.s.

I'm getting tired of the A-Team meets the X-files dynamics already.
